Use this online part, part, whole chart for exploring addition and subtraction. Drag red or yellow counters onto the chart. Use the pencil tool to write numbers and the eraser tool to erase. The trash can symbol clears the canvas.

Here are some ideas for using the part, part, whole chart:

  • Display red and yellow counters in both “part” sections of the chart. Then, ask students to determine the whole.
  • Display counters in the “whole” section and one of the “part” sections of the chart. Ask students to calculate how many counters belong in the other “part” section.
