Story Sequence

What happened first, second, and third? Every story has an order. Can you be a detective and discover the order in these short stories?

To play, simply click and drag each picture to the numbered squares according to the order in which the events took place. When the order is correct, you’ll hear a bell ring. Then, click “next” to move on to the next story. If you get the order incorrect, try moving the pictures around.

In this online story sequencing activity, children practice many important literacy skills. From interpreting visual information to using logic and ordering from left to right, sequencing helps children develop their abilities. Wondering how to expand on this virtual story sequencing activity? Here are some ideas to try:

  • After putting the pictures in the correct order, ask students to write a short story telling what happened.
  • After putting the pictures in the correct order, ask students to imagine what might happen next, and draw a picture of that.
  • Ask students to create their own story sequence pictures. Then, have students cut them out and ask a classmate to put the pictures in order.
